With the Blackpool Magic Convention approaching imminently, it’s always exciting to see what new releases will be unveiled. Check out the following compilation of forthcoming Blackpool releases, via Murphy’s. You might also spot a certain brand of cards being announced!
With the introduction of the new Fremont line in Cherry's, I thought I’d take stock with some of my own humble card collection. I’m a bit of a closet cardist too, still trying to get to grips with the array of flourishes that populate the Instagram feed in cardistry. So, I appreciate minimalist design, with the occasional touch of flamboyancy.
With my recent visit to ‘The Abandoned Room’, I was keenly anticipating the release of its own deck. This opulent looking deck, sports an elaborate tuck case emblazoned with gold and green foil, accompanied with embossing on a matt black case. You can view some beautiful shots of the exquisite deck, designed by Rick Davidson, in all its glory from the truly talented Adam Borderline.
These photos also make for great wallpaper on your mobile if you check Adams IG story feed. Also check out the recent review from The Cardists youtube channel of The Abandoned Room deck, featuring our magical friend Dynamo.
With collecting cards, also comes the important storing of your prized decks. Previously, I mentioned a cheap option of using the pod detergent tablets box, where 12 decks fit perfectly. However, I recently picked up the smart looking Carat XCB cardboard brick storage box. A sturdy case with a viewing window.
On the market there are also a nice range of storage boxes from JP Games ltd, BEISIK.
TCC also make a great line of items for card storage with there crystal and wood effect storage. Another top tip, use some small silica bags with your decks in storage, to retain any moisture
Not forgetting the equally excellent deck protection, Clear Cases from Patrick Kun, and also the plastic storage cases for individual decks. There’s something for everyone who is an avid card collector.
I’ve also just ordered the following Shuriken deck, which has a plush trailer from Sansminds. Another deck for some ninja skills cardistry!
Finally, here’s a quick look back on some of my favourite decks of 2018
Cherry Casino — Tahoe Blue and Reno Reds. Love the metallic look on the backs of these minimalist pasteboards. Mostly sold out, but they’re out there in stock if you search close enough.
Optricks — An excellent deck with an animated design and gaff cards allowing for some excellent visuals. N.B watch the tutorial before you crack the seal on these.
Untitled V1 — I was fortunate to win two decks of Adam Borderlines first release. These are truly a pieces of art that should be framed
Untitled V2 — Goes without saying, this deck is a great sequel to V1 and I hope Adam continues his artistry in card design with his awesome photography.
Mondrian: Broadway — A follow up to the original Mondrian deck from Got Magic? A beautifully silver inlay inside the tuck.
Jazz Stripes — Got Magic? followed through with an excellent accompaniment to the lavish Broadways, with a novel tuck case and nostalgic design.
Copag 310’s — I love the slightly thicker and springy stock from Cartamundi, especially with the true linen B9 finish. The same stock as the luxurious AR deck from Dynamo. They’re a bit of a squeeze into those clear cases though.
USPS Art of Magic — In conjunction with the release of the Art of Magic stamps. The deck was exclusively part of the Art of Magic Kit. Excellent minimalistic design from Jay Fletcher.
FW17 Virtuoso — late 2017, but I picked these decks up in January 2018, shortly after the Virts Kickstarter. Check out their earlier releases too, with some great borderless cards designed purely for cardistry. The following RISE promo featuring the FW17 deck is a piece of art in itself.
Whilst I promised not to buy too many effects this year, it looks like my card appetite hasn’t abated.
The struggle is real.
