Throughout my creative career I have worked with a multitude of creative minds, establishing friendships that continue to this day. It’s always refreshing when seasoned professionals are only too happy to help out with ones burning questions.

Having just completed a four week course in Magic as Theater with Rob Zabrecky, I discovered a kindred spirit. I’ve often sought the professional advice of artists I find inspiring and hope to emulate their achievements. Rob Zabrecky is not only a world class talented performer, he is also a brilliantly talented instructor, and the intensive course allowed the students to receive excellent one to one support.

Having been an avid follower of Zabrecky’s work after discovering his work via The Next Great Magician, it was serendipity when I discovered the Magic as Theatre course after the hold on The Abandoned Room. I strongly recommend, that if you wish to gain confidence as a performer and work on your scripts for a magic act, Robs thorough knowledge and experience shared in his course is priceless. One take home piece of advice from his course is to take more risks.

And to further confirm Rob Zabrecky is truly an excellent mentor, he was awarded Lecturer of the Year at this years Magic Castles AMA Awards!

Another master in magic I was fortunate to see at his latest show was the mad genius that is, The Maestro, Juan Tamariz. Performing at the Magic Circle, it was also a great opportunity to catch up with some fellow attendees of Tom Stones Art of Magic Magicians Workshop. This was my first time seeing Juan perform live and it was great to meet the man in person, and for Juan to sign my copy of his latest publication, The Magic Rainbow. The show was a brilliant concoction of card magic with some new mentalism work from Juan, filmed for Penguin Magic. Do check out Juans performance and witness a maestro conduct with flair his infectious passion for the art of magic.

Mr Quinn & The Maestro!

Speaking of masters of magic, a few years ago whilst Masterclass started up their online classes, I discussed with one of their reps on the prospect of a magic masterclass. They asked me if I could learn from any magician who would it be? My initial thoughts were the classic illusionists Lance Burton or David Copperfield or perhaps street magic from Blaine or Dynamo. Imagine my delight when Masterclass announced their foray into teaching the art of magic, with none other than the infamous Penn & Teller!

Penn & Teller

This is spectacular news as it gives me even more of a reason to subscribe to Masterclass, as I’m also keen to learn from the creative minds of Scorsese and Lynch with my passion for film. I’m hoping Masterclass have some more magic performers up their sleeves.

If you could learn from any magician, who would it be?

And finally, another master due to commence his latest tour next year, is the enigmatic Derren Brown! Also check out Derrens entertaining podcast with Russel Brown, Truth &Illusions.
